Polar Naturalist

Christian Gunn is a naturalist and lecturer specialising in the polar regions. He has over two decades of experience working on ships in the Arctic and Antarctic, and in the sub-polar regions of Northern Europe and South America.

He leads shore landings, excursions, and wildlife encounters, and delivers engaging lectures on polar exploration, wildlife behaviour, and environmental change — bringing the history, science, and spirit of the polar regions to life. He is experienced in providing ship-board bridge commentary for scenic cruising, providing insights into the unique ecosystems, wildlife, and history of these extraordinary environments.

Chris can provide a range of talks tailored to individual tour operators needs, whether the focus is on the Heroic Age, the Northwest Passage, or insights into lesser-known expeditions, deep dives into wildlife, ice, current scientific research, individual species and polar specialists, or a detailed look at the unique destinations of each voyage – aiming to inspire a deeper connection to the polar world and its fragile beauty.
